Miscellaneous Happenings (10/20)

It’s been a great October. I’ve had a few different get-togethers with new and old friends. My dear neighbor Lisa had a “Tastefully Simple” party where old neighbors got to catch up with each other and taste some little treats. My tastes were limited but I nibbled, tasted, and licked enough to know it was a successful party. One old friend – old friendship, not OLD friend – who I saw was Margaret.

The following weekend, I went to have coffee with Margaret and her younger son Bryan. What a treat to sit in their cozy kitchen and catch up on two years of adventures. Margaret was there during the divorce era and some of that was rehashed but at such a different level now that it’s so far away. We left off with promises to keep in touch.

I was also able to enjoy a Principal’s Tea with Logan’s new principal. All parents are invited, but only about 10 of us made it. (Let’s be fair, it was in the a.m. and I was off that day.) What a great chance to go around the conference table and bring up personal concerns or issues. I touched on bullying from an incident that Logan had with some students the day before on the late bus. Also went to the second PTA meeting of the year. As usually…nobody goes. There are over 1300 students and there was less than 20 people there including school reps. How sad. And to those who say “I used to go”…tell me why is now the middle school years less important to your child? Don’t mean to be preaching from my high-horse, just can’t hide my feelings.

On to nicer things: I had a 3K night – Kelly, Kerry, & Karen at Café Symposium. Another perfect night there!

And I even added some depth to my life by taking a 6-hour Defensive Driver’s Course. For a $24 fee, I will get in return a 10% discount on Auto Insurance for the next three years PLUS may even be a better driver for it.
